Does anyone watch this show? I kind of can't believe that in a room full of comic nerds not a single one of us is slavishly devoted to this thing that all kinds of other nerds worship. I'm just starting it... It's OK. But I don't see the love. I'd love to chat with someone if they're into it, though.

Do it so we can talk about it. I'm just about to finish season one, I'm sure at your rate, you'll pass me by next week. For real. I'd love to have someone to chat with about it.

Been watching Doctor Who since Hector was a pup, as my Grandfather would inexplicably say. What do you need to know?

Don't need to know anything, per se, was just looking for someone to back and forth with. I'm curious about how much Doctor Who love I see on Tumblr versus how few of my nerd friends love it, so it was more just an oddity notice. I like the second season thus far, but it's funny how different he is than the first. I'm curious when the new one's gonna come in, and all the references I've seen to Amy Pond, etc. but I'm not necessarily looking for anything spoiled either. But is there anything you'd advise me to look at, watch for, pay close attention to, etc.?

I see that you're starting it now. Stick it out past the first couple. And the non-HD. And the non-widened ratio screen. And the silly effects. It gets better.

Sorry it took so long to get to this. Doctor Who has been around so long the fans don't really think of it in seasons. They think of it more in terms of the actors, Tennant v. Baker for example. Since the reboot with Eccleston, they tend to speak of it in terms the producers, Davies v. Moffat.
My only advice is to check out some of the older episodes. Which is not to say the new stuff can't be watched alone, but it might answer some of your questions to see where it all came from and how things have shifted. There have always been hot assistants but in the past there was never a love interest for example. It evolved a bit like superhero comics, starting out as a kid's program (though the Brits have much more murder in their kid programs) and in its more recent strain having more mature subject matter.
You do have to have a much stronger suspention of disbelief to deal with the cheap effects. If you've ever watched any theater it won't be an issue. I'd say try "City of Death," it was written by Douglas Adams and has a kind of charming goofyness.
